ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FOUND DROWNED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 2. The body of Benjamin Couston, engineer, of Dunedin, drowned in the Wairau River on October 5, was recovered this morning. A MAORI DROWNED TAURANGA, Nov. 2. The police have received word that, a Maori named Tawhio Peperu was i drowned yesterday at Matiakana Island. |lt appears a party of eight Maoris I were crossing a tidal creek in a punt. I which capsized, and all wore thrown • into the water but got ashore with the exception of Tawhio. whoso body Ims not yet been recovered. The deceased was a native of high rank, aged about 30. A FATAL SWIM BLENHEIM, Nov. 2. William Rawiri, a well-known native, aged 30 years, married, was drowned in the Waiitm River on Saturday night. He attended a political meeting and was making for homo by a short cut, intending to cross tho river to homo. Tho boat was gone, and Rawiri attenip tod to swim across, and presumably was drowned. His clothes In nd bicycle wore, found on tho bank, but, no trace of the missing man has been found.
