CANDIDATES ON TOUR WANGANUI DISTRICT ELECTORATES DAILY NOTES OF PROGRESS

WANGANUI THE REFORM CAMPAIGN. MR. JOHN COULL’S FINAL MEETINGS. The Reform candidate for the Wanganui seat, Mr John Coull, will conI elude his election campaign with important meetings to-night and to-mor-row night. Gonville residents will have the opportunity of hearing Mr Coull at the Gonville Town Hall to-night, and to-morrow night he will be at His Majesty’s Theatre. THE LABOUR CANDIDATE. MR. ROGERS’ MEETINGS. Mr W. J. Rogers, th 3 Labour candidate for Wanganui, gave an address at Upper Aramoho on Saturday night, a very large number of electors being present to hear the candidate expound the platform of the New Zealand Labour Party. Mr Rogers was very cordially received and had a good hearing, while many of those present showed their genuine interest by asking questions at the conclusion of the address. The candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence. Mr Rogers will speak at the Castlecliff wharf during the luncheon hour today, and to-night at the Opera House, where a visiting Labour leader, Mr J. Roberts, will also speak. This will be Mr Roberts’ second visit to Wanganui during the campaign, and on the previous occasion he proved most interesting and entertaining.

NATIONAL PARTY CANDIDATE. MEETING OF LADIES. The attention of ladies in the city, Aramoho, St. John’s, Castlecliff, Gonville and other parts of the Wanganui electorate is directed to the fact that a special meeting has been arranged to take place this afternoon at 3 o’clock. The meeting will be held at St. Paul’s Hall. Mr Veitch will continue his campaign in the Nationalist interests by addressing meetings at the Kiosk, Castlecliff, to-night, and at the Opera House to-morrow night. The Mayor will preside at the latter meeting.

RANGITIKEI MR. GLENN’S MEETINGS. FINAL RALLY AT TAIHAPE. Mr W. S. Glenn, the Reform candidate for Rangitikei, will be at the South Makirikiri School to-night. Tomorrow night he will complete the campaign with an address in the Taihape Town Hall.

MR. DUGGAN’S PLANS. Mr C. J. Duggan, the Labour candidate, will deliver his final address at the Wanganui East Town Hall to-mor-row evening at 8 o’clock. WAIMARINO MB. R. W. SMITH AT RAETIHL (Special to “Chronicle.”) RAETIHI, Oct. 31. Ono of the largest political meetings held in Raetihi eventuated last night, when Mr R. W. Smith spoke to a crowded audience, fully 400 people being present. Mr Smith dealt with all subjects pertaining to the political situation, and from tho commencement of his speech denounced extreme Labour. Ho was particularly anxious to see Sir Joseph Ward returned in order to assist Mr Coates by joining the new Ministry. He would vote against Labour on a noconfidence motion, but in tho event of Labour, bringing down a sane measure ho would vote with them. Ho wanted a free hand at the present juncture. At question time many questions were asked, but some were ruled out by the chairman as being personal. Tho meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, proposed by Mr Vile and seconded by Mr Watson, and a most enthusiastic meeting concluded with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

[Per Press Association.] ELTHAM, Oct. 31. Mr W. C. Green, Nationalist candidate for the Egmont seat, addressed a meeting of over 300 at Eltham last night, criticising the Government policy. He was accorded a good reception and a vote of thanks. OTAKI A WRIT FOR LIBEL. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. Mr R. Semple, Labour candidate for Otaki, has instituted legal proceedings against an Otaki resident for issuing campaign literature which he alleges is damaging his character and integrity.
