BRITISH SURGEONS HONOURED. THE VALUE OF CHEWING. NEW ANAESTHETIC. Received November 1. 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK. Oct. 30. At the American College of Surgeons’ Conference at Philadelphia, five eminent foreign surgeons were extended the honorary Fellowship, viz.: From England: Lord Dawson of Penn, consu.i ant to the King; Dr. William Blair Bell, Liverpool; Sir William Arbuthnot Lane, and Dr. Phillip Franklin, London. From Italy: Professor Vittorio Putti, Bolognia. Five hundred practising American surgeons passed the qualifications and were admitted. Dr. Gf-wge Eustermann, of the Mayo Clinic, declared that human beings would be healthier if they ate half as much in twice the time. He also condemned excessive smoking. Dr. Brian Sword, of Newhaven. reported that carbon dioxide had been usefully administered in anaesthesia, lessening the anaesthetic necessary t 1 oroduee unconsciousness and shortening the time of recovery. It was also a valuable resuscitative.
