V.R.C. MEETING JUKLIE WINKIE BEATS THE CRACKS. MANFRED’S IMPRESSIVE DERBY WIGCAMPION A SMART YOUNGSTER. : Received Nov. 1. 5.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 1. j The weather was line and bright and there was a large attendance including j the Governor-General and three State i Governors at the opening day of the V.B.C. meeting. Several New Zealand ers and visitors from overseas attended. The going was excellent. King of Oude. fourth early, beat the pacemaker, Solus, handsomely in the Maiden. Rampion ed aln ay s ii the Maribyrnong Stakes and won easily. The colt was bred by his owners, and the time beat the Flemington record by half a second. The lirst prize was £2048. Kampion is unbeaten, also winning the Breeders’ Plats in Sydney. Pilliewinkie was last at the straight ! entrance, and then won the .Melbourne Stakes brilliantly from the imported Pantheon, who looked a winner in the straight. Windbag was third after he lost two lengths at the start. Heroic was last. Pilliewinkie was loudly cheered. He is engaged in the .Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. 8. Cracknell, rider of Pantheon, was cautioned for crossing Whittier in the straight.
