It is true that a heifer in first lactation will not give as much milk as a cow, but she seldom involves as great an investment and is no more liable to develop a bad quarter or udder trouble than is a cow. Some faruvrs lately have made good money by buying heifer calves and selling them as two-year-olds. or just before they were due to freshen.
