Farmers of Rangitikei " Over the last five years the Land Agents, Lawyers, have taken off the Land of New Zealand an average of £2,400,000 by way of Commissions and Land Expenses. We propose to set up a Land Transfer Department to deal with the State Purchase and Exchange of Land, and charge the Land Owners, nett cost plus overhead expenses, By the operation of this, department we could save to the useful people of New Zealand £2,000,000 per annum. The Reform Government claims that by their remission of Income Tax it was helping the farming community. The results of the Government’s action show, that out of 86,000 Land Flolders, only 5500 received any benefit and the remaining 80,500 suffered because the Customs Taxations wasf raised to meet the remissions in Taxation to the Wealthy People. Since the Reform Government took office in New Zealand Mortgages have increased by 175 per cent, and the Interest Rates have increased enormously. The Government has constantly refused to take any steps to reduce interest rates to the Working Farmers. The Labour Party suggests that thej. Government would have been serving the interests of the Working Farmer by Reducing Interest Rates in New Zealand instead of Reducing Income Tax, because all the Farmers would have received benefits thereby, instead of the few. The Labour Party stands committed to this latter principle because we believe in Closer Settlement; further, we positively know that at the present time the Useful Working Farmer is left to the tender mercies of the Mortgagee. The talk of confiscation is just as much camouflage put up by the supporters of Land Agents, etc. When the Labour Party take Office in New Zealand the Stranglehold will be re moved from the Farmers. The Farmei will have an opportunity to Farm the Land for Himself and not for the Vested Interests who control the working of the land from the office chair.
