NEVER SUBMITTED TO THE PEOPLE A Popular Belief Refuted THE COST AND EVILS OF PROHIBITION fl »*'' -' \S jmß > ■HMMMMWMHHMMMM « The Hon. Fred A. Britten, Illinois, U.S.A. Mr Britten, the Republican Representative of the 9th Division of Illinois, received at the last election 30,000 votes more than the aggregate of his three opponents. OPEN LETTER TO THE ELECTORS OF NEW ZEALAND Illinois, 4th June, 1925, Even the moat rabid Prohibitionist will quietly admit that, as at present administered. Prohibition and Volsteadism is a complete failure and that no amount of millions of dollars appropriated annually, can change or stifle the public's desire for America's favourite drink. Everybody knows that National Prohibition was never submitted to a vote of the people, and that in 25 States, having a combined population of 72 million people, even State wide Prohibition has never been approved by vote of the people. Now millions of dollars are going into the pockets of bootleggers and moonshiners, and the hip-pocket flask, so detrimental to the morals of our young manhood and womanhood, has been established bv the Volstead Act. Women, young boys and girls who seldom, if ever, indulged in any intoxicating liquor, are now drinking hard liquor in considerable quantities, and the effect upon the social and moral tone of the community is anything but good. The law has been and is a complete failure as a temperance measure. Yours very truly, PROFIT BY EXPERIENCE VOTE CONTINUANCE
