NOTES FROM MELBOURNE. THE HAWK EXPECTED. Received Oct. 31, 12.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. The following scratchings are report* ed:—Cantala Stakes, Lord Lonsdale. Hotham Handicap, Rilliewinkie. The Hawk is expected to arrive at Melbourne to-morrow and run in the Linlithgow Stakes on Thursday. Rob is returning to Dunedin. H. Jones rides Stralia in the Melbourne Cup. A QUICK RECOVERY. Received Oct. 31, 12.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 30. Owing to an old sore in The Hawk’s heel re-opening, it was not intend d 4p run him at the Flemington meeting, but in view of his quick recovery and generally improved form he goes to Melbourne to-night to compete in weight-for-nge events.
