MAN THREATENS WIFE NEIGHBOUR MAY LOSE AN EYE. ASSAILANT SENT TO GAOL FOR A MONTH. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 29. A man who went to the place where his wife (from whom he is separated) was now living, and made a disturbance last night, received a month’s imprisonment for the offence from Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The accused was John Sullivan, and he was charged with unlawfully assaulting James Burrows, and also with wilfully breaking three panes of glass, valued at £3, in the windows of a building the property of Mary McSweeney, Papanui. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. Senior-Sergeant Lewin said that about eight o’clock last night the accused went to the house of Mrs McSweeney, his mother-in-law, where his wife and children were staying. Jie threatened to kill them, made a disturbance and broke three panes of glass.
Burrows, a neighbour, came to help the women, and he was assaulted by the accused, who then went away. The assault charge was adjourned for one week, as it is possible that Burrows may lose the sight of his left eye/
