DIFFICULT TIMES

(To the Editor). Sir, —The letters that have appeared in the paper from several correspondents- show conclusively that there is a Idrge element in the city who view what this election means seriously. This is as it should be. The Prime Minister has stressed it, and Sir Joseph Ward has stated that tl difficult times are ahead/’ And anyone who reads the world’s news at all must realise it. Politics are repugnant to me, and my inclinations are to leave them alone, but if we all did that what sort of Government —the people who guide the destinies of this wonderful little country for the next three years —would we get? It would not be long before absolute chaos reigned. One must avoid that at all costs, and my help to the problem would be, and it was brought to my mind by reading Ist Thessalonians, v. 21, 11 Prove all things, hold fast to that which is good,” which brought again to my mind another Biblical quotation which our Prime Minister is said to have used, "He that is not with me is against me.” This again made me think of that large body of voters who have no decided opinions and whose vote, if fully polled, would almost turn any election. Now times are serious, and this vote is needed. Every voter should go to the poll, and I would suggest to those who find difficulty in making up their minds that they should take advice from their spiritual pastors. Then when troublous times do come they can congratulate themselves that they have put a good, strong and powerful Government into office to cope with them. —I am, etc., A HOUSE DIVIDED.
