Y.M.C.A. EVENING MEETING There was a good attendance of spectators on Cook’s Gardens last evening, when some good racing was witnessed. The following are the results:— 100 Yards (Club Handicap).— E. Brown (3yds.) 1, Sairusi (4yds.) 2, E. Spriggens (4Jyds.) 3. Also started: E. Heibner scr., W. Bromley 3yds., V. E. Jones 5, R. Palmer 6. The field finished practically in a line. Had Sairusi ran straight, ho must have won. Time, 10 2-ssccs. 220 Yards Handicap.—E. Brown (11 yds.) 1, H. Edmondson (16yds.) C. Maitland (syds.) 3. Also started: A. Telfar Byds., G. Broad 13, W. Bromley 17, V. E. Jones 21. The winner got up in time to win on the tape, the rest of the field elose up. Tme, 23 2-ssec. One Mile Handicap—-S. Barry (90 yds.) 1, K. Kitney (160yds.) 2, K. Johnston (160yds.) 3. Also started: 11. Newton scr., J. Pawson 40, J. Broad 70, W. R. Palmer 80, F. McLean 100. The winner ran a nice race, getting homo by about five yards, with two yards between second and third. Newton, a couple of yards behind, was fourth, with Pawson, Palmer and Broad close up. Time, 4.35.
Half-mile Cycle Race.—H. Austin (60 yds.) 1, G. Rolleson (170yds) 2, L. Wakeling (100yds.) 3. Also started: C. Ericsson scr., L. Moorhouse 60yds., W. Langsdown 100, L. Madder 100, E. W. Dear 100, W. Mosen 120, J. Stewart 160, R. Ericsson 170, P. Wall 180. The winner shot out coming into the straight, and won by six yards, with the placed men at the head of a bunch. Brown, one of the back markers, fell at the gun fire and the field were brought back. Ho decided not to start, as ho had loosened the head of his machine. This spoiled the scratch man’s chances, as ho had to ride the race on his own, and although he rode a great race ho could not quite get up. Time, 5.32 2-5.
