AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

MUNICIPAL PICTURES DOUBLE-FEATURE PROGRAMME. The Irvin Willat-Paramount production, “The Air Mail,’’ adapted from an original story by Byron Morgan, comes to the Opera House to-morrow night. Warner Baxter, Billie Dove, Mary Brain and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., are featured in the leading roles of the picture. Baxter portrays the part of Russ Kane, clever crook and diaring aviator, who joins the air service solely for the purpose of robbing the mails, and is regenerated by the spirit of the service, the love of a beautiful girl and the companionship of an orphaned boy. Billie Dove plays the girl, Alice Rendon, who lives in the “deserted city” with her father, George Irving. Young Fairbanks is Sandy, crazy about anything and everything connected with avilation. This keeps him hanging around the flying field where he meets Kane (Baxter), and immediately makes an idol of him. Mary Brian plays Minnie Wade, a fine part. Other big names in the strong supporting cast are Guy Olliver, Richard Tucker, Lee ShumWay and Lloyd Whitlock. In the story are two bands of crooks constantly spying on Baxter. They suspect that he is going to doublecross them and a humdinger of an air battle takes place, with Baxter, Fairbanks Jr., and Billie Dove fighting off the bandits and seeing the mail through in .Safety.

The second feature is entitled “The Oppressed.” This picture presents a story of Belgium’s struggle for freedom in the time of Spain’s greatest power.
