The Kapiti sails to-day for Wellington. Messrs Cock and Co. advise:— THE KAITOA. The Kaitoa sails for Wellington to-day. SAILING VESSELS CHARTERED. News received by a recent English mail states that several large sailing vessels have been fixed to load Baltic timber for Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide. One of the vessels is the Swedish four-masted barque Beatrice, 1923 tons, which recently made the passage from Adelaide to the Channel in 103 days, and after discharging her wheat cargo at Rotterdam left on August 12 for Sundsvaal. The Finnish four-masted barquentine Mozart, 1749 tons, made a long passage of 151 days from Melbourne to Birkenhead, and after discharging her cargo left on August 14 for Sundavaal. where she will probably load Baltic timber for Sydney. The Norwegian ship Skaragrom, 1822 tons, another wheat vessel from Adelaide, was 130 days on the trip to London, and left there on August 8 for Fredrikshald, where she arrived after a tow of four days. She was to sail last month for Melbourne.

The big German four-masted barque Gustav, 252 tons register, which made the passage from Melbourne to Falmouth in 185 days, has left Antwerp for a Baltic port to load timber for Adelaide. NEW P. AND O. LINER. Successful official trials have been have been carried out by the large new twin-screw steamer Ranchi, which has been built by R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co. (Ltd.), Hebburn-on-Tyne, for the P. and O. Company’s jmssenger and mail service between London and Bombay, the second of two sister ships built by Messrs Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co. for the same owners. She is 570 ft. in length overall, 71ft 3in in breadth, and 47ft in depth, and has seven decks. There are seven cargo holds with two hydraulic crane at each hatch, and her equipment is otherwise of the most modern type. The accommodation ; for first-class and second-class passengers is , finsly la!d-out, and has been fitted and furi risked with exceptional artistic taste.
