DEVASTATING TORNADO
ATLANTIC STATES SWEPT LIVES LOST AND GREAT DAMAGE DONE NAVY SEAPLANES WRECKED. Received October 26. 10.10 p.m. (Reuter). NEW YORK, Oct. 26. Devastating wind storms struck Atlantic coast States, resulting in the death of at least twenty-one persons and heavy damage to homes and shipping. In Alabama a tornado sweeping in from the Texas coast killed sixteen, injured more than a score, and levelled dozens of houses. In Woburn, Massachusettes, five hundred houses were damaged. In Baltimore, seventeen navy seaplanes assembled for manoeuvres in connection with the Schneider Cup races broke from their moorings. Seven of them weer completely wrecked, and others badly damaged.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
