ROWING
ARAMOHO CLUB’S SEASON OPENED ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. Despite several counter-attractions, there was a large attendance of rowing enthusiasts and their friends at the Aramoho Boat Club’s official opening on Saturday afternoon. Alessrs W. A. Veitch and Hope Gibbons spoke at the opening, and both wished the club a successful season. At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, a series of sprint races was rowed from Webb’s shed to the club house. Tho competing crews were as follows: A. Gurney (str.), P. Kennedy (3), C. Aitken (2), E. Brider (bow). Thurston (str.) C. Campbell (3), Anderson (2), Gullery (bow). Coats (str.), Small (3), Locke (2), Coxon (bow). Kruse (str.), Hayward (3), F. Kennedy (2), Laird (bow). Harper (str.), Fromont (3), Campbell (2), Stent (bow). Cotterill (str.), R. Coxon (3), Buller (2), Ross (bow). The results were:—Kruse beat Coats; Harper beat Cotterill; Gurney beat Thurston. Semi-Final. —Harper beat Kruse. Final.—The final resulted in Gurney’s crew defeating Harper’s crow after a good race.
