ENGLAND NOT DONE
STRENGTHENED BY MISFORTUNES. SOUND ADVICE TO AMERICANS. Received October 25, 5.5 p.m. (Reuter). NEW YORK, Oct. 24. Sir Robert Horne, former Chancellor of tho British Exchequer, speaking at a dinner in his honour given by the Pilgrims, urged his audience to place no faith in rumours that “England is done.” He said: “The country gained by her misfortunes, and she will be helped greatly by the Locarno Pact, which will go far to restoring trade and commerce to Europe.” Former United States Secretary of State Hughes said: ‘‘The promise of Locarno is not in the language of treaties, but in tho disposition to make them.” Mr Hughes said he hope 1 tho United States Senate, acting upon tho recommendation of President Coolidge, would give proper support to the Permanent Court of International Justice. —Aus.-N.Z.
