ARCHDEACON OF WAITOTARA

INSTITUTION OF REV. CREED MEREDITH YESTERDAY’S CEREMON >' The Rev R. Creed Meredith. Vicar of Christ Church, was instituted Archdeacon of Waitotara by Bishop Sprott at Christ Church yesterday morning, when there was a large congregation. Archdeacon Meredith was presented to the Bishop by Rev. ,T. Hobbs, and the institution ceremony was then per formed. The Bishop read the deer! of appointment, and the Vicar made the usual declarations. After prayer, the laying on of hands and the blessing, the Bishop, in the course of his address, spoke, of the great confidence he felt in appointing the new Archdeacon, and he hoped that the parish would be willing, in some little measure, Io support him to do the outside work which the position in volved. Of the many important par islics, Wanganui was one of the most important of the whole diocese, and they were naturally expected to con tribute to the life of the whole. There fore he was sure they would bo will ing to make the sacrifices necessarv to enable the Archdeacon to carry out his duties. The Bishop added that he felt certain, from his knowledge of Cm Archdeacon, that the parish wou:-i not suffer in any way. He proceed-- to preach front the text: ‘‘Jesus Chri.-t, the same yesterday, to-day and for over.” In a very interesting aud clo quent sermon, he made reference to th. historical research of the last 150 vears in regard to the yesterday of ClniM, and stressed the importance of rcaliing that the Christ of yesterday wa the Christrwith the same power to-day
