“MAY GOD HELP US”
IF STATE GROWS OUR FOOD (Special to “Chronicle.’’) TE AWAMUTU, Oct 23. 4 4 God help the people if they have to depend on State labour for the production of food,” said the Prime Minister at Te Aroha. “Labour speaks of the working farmers. Do you know many farmers who don’t work? Eight hours a day does not get the farmer very far. If you give the people oq the landaucficient encouragement, freedom and finance they will produce the food that is required. I am a farmer, and do not forget the calling I was bred to, but if tho farmers think they can get along by themselves they are very much mistaken. What is wanted is co-operation between the country and tho town. The legislation must be for the good of tho country as a whole, and not for any section of it.” (Applause).
