Sister Mildred Yorke has been appointed sister in charge of the mater nity annexe, Stratford Hospital.
Constable P. Sheehan, of Wanganui, has passed his sectional examination for sub-inspector.
The death is announced of Mr Edwin James Carr, aged 67, a member of the Auckland Harbour Board.
A London cable states that the Rev. Lionel Ford has been appointed Dean of York in succession to the Rev. Foxley Morris, the new Dean of Westminister.
The*-'Archbishop of Wellington, Dr. Sprott, is visiting "Wanganui, and will remain over Sunday. He will be nt Christ Church to-morrow morning and at the Collegiate School in the evening.
The institution of Archdeacon Meredith, vicar of Wanganui, as Archdeacon of Waitotara is to take place ar. Christ Church to-morrow morning. Bishop Sprott will perform the ceremony.
Among the passengers by the Maunganui, which Waited from Sydney yesterday, is Mr T. W. Rapley, general manager of the Australian Provident Assurance Association in New Zealand. He has been appointed general manager, for Australia and Now Zealand.
