GOODS TRANSPORT

BRITAIN’S SMALLEST RAILWAY. Eaton Hall is served by the smallest working railway in Great Britain. Goods and material needed for the establishment at the Hall used to be carted from Chester until the late Duke of Westminister’s agent, tho Hon. C. Parker, suggested the construction of a light railway which would connect Eaton Hall with Walderton, on the Great Western. This toy railway runs across many of the park drives and over several small streams, and sometimes hauls 300 tons a month. There are two miniature locomotives, the larger of which weighs 4 tons 12cwt., forty-four goods waggons, two brake vans, a passenger car, a parcel van, and a tool van. The passenger car runs two four-wheeled bogies, is 20ft long, and has seating accommodation for eighteen.
