CONTROL OF WHEAT
WARNING TO AMERICAN GROWERS. MUST NOT INCREASE AREA. WASHINGTON, Oct. 21. A warning that if the United States farmers carry out their expressed intentions to plant more wheat in 1926 as the result of the heavy domestic demands this year, all the American crop next year “may be put on an export basis, and have to meet competition in foreign markets without tariff protection” is given in a statement issued by the Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Jardine. Foreign competition is increasing in Europe, and the countries affected by the war are recovering. The wheat area of Australia, Argentina and Canada is now more than fifty per cent, above the pre-wtar average.
