THE FINAL LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY MRS DODGSHUN OPPONENT SOUNDLY DEFEATED [Ter Press Ahso-iation.l WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. The New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Championship was decided to-day, when Mrs Dodgshun (Otago) soundly defeated Mrs Cook (also of Otago) by 8 up and 7 to play, after having had the better of the game right through. Mrs Cook’s weakness was on the greens, where her short putting was lamentably lacking in finish. On the other hand her long game was excellent—save for one or two crashes—and her approach putting was good. It may be said without prejudice to a very capable golfer that Mrs Cook was beaten on her merits by a sounder player, who would probably beat her nine times out of ten.

Tho weather was again ideal and the Miramar links flawless. The ‘ 1 gallery, ” which was about 200 in tho morning, increased to some 500 in lhe afternoon, and they were treated to seme excellent golf. Airs Dodgshun r< - turned a sound card of 85 in the morning—43 out and 42 in, tho latter being only one above bogey, and in the afternoon she did a bogey 40. The game finished on a note of comic relief. Airs Dodgshun at the 11th topped her drive into the right grass just across a drain, and amidst some amusement Airs Cook followed with a ball to within a few yards of the same place, tho ball being found with some difficulty. Airs Cook made two ineffectual attempts to get out, and th a played back across the drain to the open. Airs Dodgshun got out at her second attempt, but pulled the next into a rough hole, actually taking 9-10. The Champion’s Career. Airs Dodgshun commenced her golf at the age of twelve years at St. Clair links (Dunedin), which were situated on her father’s property. She received her early coaching from Air J. Afullinder, the professional of the club, and from her brother, wlu» was one of its prominent members. Airs Dodgshun before her marriage twice won the championship of the St. Clair Club. She has twice been champion of the Otago Club, to which she belongs at present. For the last three years she has been open champion of Otago. Last Easter she won the Canterbury open championship.
