Lord Justice Moore has been appointed Lord Chief Justice of Ireland in succession to Sir Dennis Henry.

Acting upon medical advice, Mr T. M. Wilford has left on a health-re-cruiting trip abroad. Accompanied by Mrs Wilford, he was a passenger by the Port Dunedin on Friday for London, via Panama.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board Dr. Marshall, who is attached to the staff of the local hospital, was appointed Medical Superintendent of the Raetihi institution. Dr. Marshall will take up her new duties on November 1 next.

Mr Charles McCarthy, senr., for many years mine host of the Wanganui hostelry bearing his name, celebrated his 65th birthday yesterday. Many of his old friends paid him a visit and spent a convivial half-hour, all expressing the wish that the popular ex-boni-face would have many anniversary returns of his natal day.

At last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board feeling reference was made to the death of the late Mr Jas. McGregor. It was decided to place on record appreciation for the services in regard to horticulture rendered at the schools by the deceased gentleman, and also to express the sympathy of the Board with the bereaved relatives.

The Medical Superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital (Dr. Nelson) reported to yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board, that Nurse Lockwood had resigned her position on the staff, having completed her course of training. Misses Shadbolt and Macßae had entered the institution, and Miss Sutherland had taken up duty on the massage staff at the beginning of the month.
