AUSTRALIANS AGAIN BEATEN NELSON WIN 3—l. (Per Press Asdociation.) NELSON, July 25. Alost favourable, overhead conditions, with the ground a trifle heavy, prevailed for the hockey match against Australia this afternoon, played before a large crowd. Nelson quickly showed superiority and held the upper hand throughout. The forwards were more clever than the visitors, and the halfline stronger. Within ten minutes of the start Lee obtained the ball from Cassells and sent in a high shot to the net. A rush by the visitors reached the Nelson circle, where the goalkeeper saved on two occasions. A few minutes afterwards Lee again found the not, and repeated the performance later in the spell. Several rushes by Australia were driven back by splendid defence, in which Gibbs particularly was conspicuous. With three goals in arrears the visitors at. last penetrated the defence, Craig netting from a scramble in front of the goal mouth. In the second half the Australians displayed more vigour and quite held their own, just missing scores more than once, but the final whistle blew: Nelson 3, Australia 1.
