SMOKE CONCERT AT WESTMERE i The annual smoke concert of the [Brunswick, Kapauui and VVestmeru I branches of the i'armors’ Union was I held al Westmere last evening, Mr T. Currie, chairman of the Brunswick (branch and I’ruvincial president, presiding over an attendance of about 1150. During the course of a very 'pleasant evening a lengthy toast list jwas honoured; while me programme | was interspersed with pleasurable i musical and vocal numbers. ! The toast list was as follows: —“The living,’’ “ Wanganui-Kfengitikei Electric [Power Board,’’ proposed by Mr Claud i .Smith, responded to by Air P. H. Smith, {managing secretary of the Power 'Board; “The Brunswick Rifle team ■and the champion shot of the Wanganui District of the Farmers’ Union, Mr Kitto,” proposed by Mr D. McGregor. The proposer presented the shooting ’trophies at this stage of the proceedings—the Challenge Cup to the captain [of the Brunswick Branch Rille team, land the Somerville Championship Belt, ’and the union’s gold medal to the I champion shot, Air Kitto. ’ Air T. Currie, the chairmfen of the I Brunswick branch, responded to the [toast. The next toast was:—“The winners of this year’s farmers’ field competitions —mangolds, Mr E. Parsons; carirots, Mr C. Billinghurst; ” proposed by • Air T. Alexander, responded to by 'Messrs Parsons and Billinghurst; “The (Field Division of the Department of Agriculture,” proposed by Mr W. AforIrison, responded to by Air J. AV. Deem; .“The Ladies” and the “Press.” I During the course of the evening Air iW. Brown (Levin and Co.) handed over [the “Sutton Cup” to Mr H. Grove, .chairman of the Waitotara branch of the union, for presentation at a Ifetcr date to Mr E. Parsons, the winner.
