ENCOURAGING EMPIRE RESOURCES. LONDON, July 23. Air L. S. Amery, in a speech at the Self-Supporting Empire lunch, emphasised limitless possibilities if the British peoples put their resources into a common pool, for the common development of the League’s ideal was chiefly obtainable through the medium of housewives purchasing. They were really a direct factor of the Empire’s prosperity. It was therefore necessary to educate them concerning this moral responsibility to the Empire. Dr Haden Guest pleaded with the women not to be dominated by the fetish of cheapness, but by buying things produced under the best standard of life as they were in Britain and the Dominions. Our shopkeeping must be moralised as well as .lr*.perialised.
