Mr. Cladderton, of San Francisco, left Wanganui, early yesterday morning after spending a few days in the city. Mr Howard Rout, of the Whangarei y branch of the National Bank, who has been transferred to Wanganui, has taken up his duties. While in Whan garni Mr Rout was closely identified with golf. It was with sincere regret that the many friends of Mrs D. Munro heard of her death, which occurred on Wednesday at the early fcige of 42 years. The deceased lady, who was born in Wanganui, was the only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Thomas Drummond. She was much beloved by all who knew her, and sincere sympathy will go out to the bereaved husband (Colonel I). Munro) and family.

Yesterday afternoon the literary staff of the Christchurch Press showed their regard for Mr A. AT. Burns, assistant editor and chief sub-editor, who has been appointed manager of the Christchurch Press Company Ltd., by presenting him with a gold watch. Later, the retiring manager, Air A. Al. Hester, was met by all the staff of the company and presented with a purse containing a very substantial sum in note.n with which to purchase something tangible as a reminder of his thirty seven years’ service with the Pres? and the esteem in which he was held by his follow employees.— Press Association. By the death of Air. Henry McEwen at Palmerston North on Thursday afternoon the Dominion has lost another of the links with the early colonising days. The deceased gent.h man. who was 79 years of ago, was well-known and highly respected throughout the district of which he was one of the very early settlors, his connection with the Manawat.u dating back nearly 60 years. Born at Lower Hutt, the late Air. McEwen was a son of the late Mr. David McEwen, who also wes well known in the Man.-iwalu. The latter came to the Dominion from Scotland in 1840 in ship Bengal Merchant, one of the first vessels to carry pioneer settlers to the new land.
