GREECE “CHANGES OVER”

ANOTHER REVOLUTION SEVENTH IN 26 YEARS BLANK CARTRIDGES SUFFICIENT Received June 2G, 10.45 p.m. VIENNA, June 25. Reports from Athens state that Greece is experiencing the seventh revolution in twenty-six years. ’ Soldiers and naval forces under the leadership of General Pangalos and Admiral Hadji kyriakos seized the public buildings and secured the resignation of the micahelacopolos Government, declaring their determination to end the maladministration and reform the finances.

General Pangalos is a well-known fire-eater. He has been Generalissimo and War Minister but failed to establish himself as the Depublican Dictator in 1923.

Armed followers of General Pangalos occupied the post office and Ministries at five o’clock this morning, after a fusilade of blank cartridges. The moment General Pangalos sent an ultimatum, President Cuondouriotis held a conference with the Government and Micahelacopoulos resigned at eleven. By 1 p.m. the President had entrusted to Papanastasiou the formation of a new Cabinet.

The Daily Express’ Athens correspondent states that General Pangalos refused to consider a coalition Cabinet but approved of the formation of a Cabinet under Papanastasiou, the Republican leader, General Pangalos becoming War Minister and Admiral Hadjikyriakos Naval Minister.

Athens has now two hostile camps and the city appears to be under a reign of terror, but so far the revolution has been bloodless. Only a few shots have been fired in the deserted business quarters. General Pangalos’s ultimatum says the National Assembly is incapable of meeting the situation. The Government has lost support of army and navy as only a few detachments of the Athens garrison remain to support them. The Republicans will hold the Government and their supporters responsible if a drop of blood is shed.

BRITISH NAVAL MISSION RECALLED. Received Juno 26, 10.45 p.m. AT ENN A, June 26. The Daily Express adds: Admiral Townsend and three naval officers, forming the British Naval Mission at Athens, are being recalled. Their relations with the Commander of the Greek Navy have been strained. REVOLUTION DECLARED A SUCCESS Received June 26, 10.45 p.m. LONDON, June 26. The latest information from Athens states it is unlikely that Papanastassion will form a Cabinet. General Pangalos is issuing orders from the War Office. He claims the rising was successful throughout the country.
