GENERAL

All fruit trees should have the ground under them kept free from weeds. It should be ploughed or well dug once every winter. It is a waste of valuable fruit to let the grass g.*ow round them as the crop will be small and the fruit inferior. When apples were grafted on seed ling stock some of the strong growe-s would crop in spite of such treatment, but now all apples are grafted on “Northern Spy” stock they will not give returns unless propeny cared for. Plums are also grown on cuttingmade stock. They come into cropping sooner, but they must be looked after if good results are expected. Some notes on spraying will be given next week.
