AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND THEATRE. PRISCILLA DEAN IN “THE WHITE TIGER’’ <" Miss Dean has in “White Tiger” the role of an underworld Queen of tho society brand. She is one of three famous,, or infamous, interna tional crooks who operate in the exclusive circles of society and turn up their aristocratic noses at jewels worth less than fifty or a hundred thousand dollars. Properly speaking such a story isn’t an ’‘underworld" story in the final sense, and yet. as police records show, the underworld is in its final haunt, the headquarters and the training ground of the society class of criminals, so it all amounts to the same. For the other two players to complete the trio of million dollar thieves, Universal engaged Wallace Beery of “The Flame of Life” and “Robin Hood,” and Raymond Griffith. Matt Moore is the leading man, having the one “straight” character to play in the story. One of the most interesting situations in “White Tiger” shows the trio quarrelling among themselves, unwilling to trust each other, and at the same time believing an honest meddler, whoso onlv purpose is to draw the girl from her path of crime, to be a crook waiting for his chance to demand a “divvy.” This big special is supported by another seven-reel feature by Premier National Pictures “The Spider and The Rose” starring Alice Lake, Robert McKim, Gaston Glass. The plan for reserves is at Rawell’s.
