SKINS AND HIDES

The fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow, etc., was held at Wellington on Friday. There was the usual attendance of buyers. Competition for sheepskins was keen, but at a lower range of values. Prices all round were probably Id per lb. lower. Prices for sheepskins, however, are still at a high level. The hide market is still weak, and prices on Friday shoved a further drop. Tallow also was weaker. The range of prices was as follows: Sheepskins.—Half bred, 15$d to 18£fl; fine crossbred, 14jd to 16|d; medium and coarse crossbred, 13d to 15|d; short to half-wools, 12d to 13|d; lambs 14Jd to 17d; dead and damaged crossbred 9d to 13d; inferior and badly damaged, 5d to 8d; pelts, 101 d to 12d; damp, salted and green, 7s 6d to 14s 6d; lambs, salted, 8s 6d. Hides.—Ox, heavy, 701 b. and over, 9]d; ox, heavy, 591 b. to 691 b., B]d to 91d; ox, medium, 531 b. tot 581 b., to 8d; ox, light, 45ih. to 521 b., 4fd to sfd; cut, slippy and rior, 3&d to 7fd; cow, heavy, 531 b. and over, 5Ad to 6id; cow, medium, 451 b. to 521 b., 4£d to s£d; cow, light, 331 b. to 441 b., 4£d to sgd; cut, slippy and inferior, 21d to bull, stag 3|d to 4d; yearling, 111 b. to 161 b., 54d to sfd; calf, medium to good, 10£d to 13d; calf, damaged, 3Ad to lOd.
