Received June 28, 11.25 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 28. In the House of Representatives, Mr Bruce, introducing a Bill to appropriate two and a-half millions for naval construction, reminded the House that Britain’s naval power was so much weakened under the Washington Treaty that Australia’s position was very perilous. The country was defenceless but for the British Navy. The debate was adjourned till next week, on the motion of Mr Charlton. Mr Bruce’s speech was punctuated by Labour interruptions, the Speaker having to intervene to secure him a hearing.
