VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE
FELT OVER WIDE AREA REPORTED IN SEVERAL WORLD CENTRES. Received June 27. 8.40 p.m. (Reuter.) LONDON. June 26. Alost violent earthquake shocks are reported in several world centres. At Faenzas, Italy, the record of shock at Bendandis Observatory began at 3 in the morning and lasted four hours. It appeared to have occurred 7000 miles away. The quivering of rhe apparatus carried off the quills of the instrument. Received June 27, 8.40 p.m. CAPETOWN, June 26.
Reports of an earthquake registered at the Royal Observatory lasted two and a-half hours, beginning at 3.50 in the morning. It was apparently 5600 miles off.
