THE PACT STORY DISPOSED OF M. HERRIOT’S STATEMENT Received June 27, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, June 27. The statements by Air MacDonald and Al. Herriot are regarded as disposing of the story of a pact in the event of German aggression. According to Paris dispatches M. Herriot explained that the Chequers conversations naturally, bore on the co-operation of England and France in the maintenance of peace and upon a guarantee for France in the case of aggression, but he did not claim that there had been any definite conclusion. He added that there was no question of reducing the security given to France by the Versailles Treaty. Germany must be disarmed in order that Europe may breathe freely. A declaration of promises would not suffice and he found Air AlacDonald in complete agreement with this point.
