HARDY BATHERS ARE THEY FOOLHARDY. Asked if harm was likely to result from sea bathing or cold showers in winter, Professor Osborne, professor ..1 physiology at Melbourne University, said:— “A few people ean Indulge in these Spartan exercises, and feel well and happy afterwards It will do them na harm. “Others, of thin physique and highly strung nerves, sometimes force themselves, as a kind of duty, to take cold baths in winter. If they shiver and feel tired afterward they ought to give it up, ami they will be better in health. "However, I do not think winter cold bathing is likely to become a widespread vice, ‘undermining the national health. The statician need hardly concern himsoif as to its possible effect on the mortality rat* fol I feel sure it will be infinitesimal.”
