BREACH OF LICENSING LAW
LIQUOR IN “DRY” AREA. TWO CONVICTIONS. (By Telegraph) Special to “Chronicle.” OHAKUNE, June 10. Charles Gillett, of Hamilton, was fined £1 and costa at the Ohakune Magistrate's Court for sending liquor into a no license area without notifying the Clerk of the Court of the nature and quantity of the liquor. R. J. McKenzie, also of Hamilton, was similarly charged, and fined the same amount. The police said that hotel keepers were certainly not very careful and did not go to much trouble to acquaint themselves with the licensing laws of the King Country. Neither had been previously convicted and His Worship said that the fine was light on this occasion, but he intended in future to make the penalty for such offences more severe.
