RANGITIKEI RUGBY SUBUNION. (From Our Own Correspondent) On Saturday, at Turakina, the horn team defeated Marton seniors by ' points to 6. D. Cameron potted i goal from a penalty. Schultz scored ; try and Stevens landed a goal from ; penalty for Marton. On Saturday there was a keen con test at Halcombe between the Toko rangi and Rata seniors, and afte: one of the best games witnessed a Halcombe the match resulted in i draw, each side scoring a try. J Taiuru scored a try for Rata and H Thompson for Tokorangt. The following team will represen’ Hunterviile seniors in their matel against Marton, at Marton, on satur day: Higgins, Illston, Berrctt, Simp son, Stewart. Hare, Peake, Still Ellery, McDonald, McAlley, Henwood Garner, Bowick, Coleman. Reserves: Laird. Wells. The following referees have been appointed for to-day’s Junior cup matches:— Marton v. A meeting of the management committee of the union will be held this evening. MARTON BOROUGH COUTNCH* The usual fortnightly meeting !of the Marton Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. F. Purnell). Crs, H. Y. Cameron, J. A. Bush, G. B. Gregory, J. Mogridge, W. Price, A. H. Bill, J. Hunter. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. R. J. Moore. CORRESPONDENCE Inward correspondence was dealt with as follows: From Ellis and Co., thanking Council for order for 52 tons of Union Asphalt, to arrive about September. Received. From Power Board stating that the Board will permit the council to attach street signs on electric poles within the borough.—lt was decided to thank the Power Board.

From town elerk, Nelson, re subdivisions of land and approval of plans under Section 335 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1920. —The mattor was referred to the council’s delegate •at the next conference.

The question as to whether a firebell or siren would be more suitable was discussed. The matter arose as the result of a letter from Booth, Macdonald, and Co., Ltd., offering a suitable bell for £ss.—The Mayor referred to a discussion at a meeting of Marton retailers, consequent upon receipt of a letter from the council asking whether that body would undertake the collection of subscriptions for purchase of a suitable bell and tower.—Cr. Cameron reported that the retailers had taken up the matter en-

thusiastically at their last meeting. They did not wish to promise, however, that it would be taken up straight away. It was decided to write to Hamilton Borough Council for particulars and to thank the Retailers’ Association for its efforts. GENERAL NEWS At the Cribbagc Shield tournament on Monday evening Greatford defeated Druids by 17 games to 13, and Tutaenui defeated Foresters by 19 games to 11. The position of the teams is as follows: Druids, 5 wins. Tutaenui, 4 wins; Greatford, Z wins and a draw; Foresters, 1 draw. ' The Rangitikci Motor Cycle Club intend holding their annual dance iu the Marton Town Hall on Friday evening next. The Marton Orchestra will provide the music, and supper will be dispensed. Double tickets are 6s. and extra lady 3s. The following are the results of the shield shoot:—
