GROSSLY MISLED
LONDON UNDERGROUND STRIKERS FALSE LEADERS RESPONSIBLE The situation arising out of the strike on the London underground railways is slightly better. The president of the railwaymen’s union has issued a manifesto urging the strikers to return to work while there is time. He declares that the men have been grossly misled by would-be dictators. SITUATION SLIGHTLY IMPROVED Received June 9, 8.30 p.m. LONDON, June 9. The Underground Railway strike continues to be serious, but services were maintained throughout Sunday, and the situation in the evening was better rather than worse, as a certain number of men were returning to work. A demonstration by strikers on Ealing Common was a fiasco owing to rain.

Received June 11, 12.55 a.m. Sun LONDON, June 9. “Return to work before too late,” runs the latest manifesto of the president of the National Union of Railwaymen. He stigmatises the strike as a colossal blunder and asserts that the men have been badly misled by a few irresponsibles in an attempt to exercise a dictatorship which the union will not tolerate.
