ATTEMPTED BANK ROBBERY
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 9. Between seven and ten last night burglars entered the Union Bank of Australia, at the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets, having wrenched the back-door open with a crowbar or a jemmy.
Gelignite was placed in the keyhole of the strong room, and bedding used to deaden the report. The locks were shattered, but the door of the safe held firm, and the thieves were frustrated, the contents of the safe being intact.
This was the most daring attempt at bank robbery in Auckland for years.
