At the Euston railway accident inquiry, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Chambers wept while giving evidence. He said he made no mistake with the lever, but believed the train was on the other line. The coroner said he was satisfied that Chambers made an honest mistake, and there was no culpable neglect. At Montreal, the Canadian Manufacturers’ Association adopted a resolution requesting the Government to cancel the British preferential tariff, or increase the difference between Canada and Britain.
For the ten months of the current financial year the imports into Victoria exceeded the exports by £12,385,373, as compared with £5,664,340 in 1922-23. A settlement of the dispute on the Perth pilot tenders has been reached.
