GAMBLING FACILITIES

PROTEST AGAINST EXTENSION. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. Believing that the legislation promised in the coming session will considerably enlarge gambling facilities, the Council of Christian Congregations has circulated a business men’s petition tv Parliament, urging that do further gambling facilities should be granted to racing or trotting clubs. A letter, signed by Archbishop Julius (president) and Rev. J. J. North (secretary of the Council), was sent to some 300 business men, whose signatures to the petition were solicited. Accompanying the letter is a memorandum on the economic aspects of racecourse gambling, signed by Professors Condiiffe. Murphy, Grossman and Woodthorpc.
