ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
FALL FROM A TRAIN. (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, June 7. Emma Gornley, aged 55, married, fell from the Auckland express last night and was carried a few yards, her left hand being almost completely severed. She was taken to the hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the arm below the elbow. FATAL FALL FROM LADDER. WELLINGTON, June 7. Leslie Hebbend, aged 23, employed by the Hutt Power Board, fell 14 feet from a ladder at Petone. He fractured his skull and died later at the hospital. SCHOOLMASTER WOUNDED. WHAKATANE, June 7. The schoolmaster at Otakiri, Kenneth Brown, was seriously injured through a gunshot wound last evening. He had been out shooting, and when returning home at dusk pulled his gun by the barrel through a wire fence when the weapon exploded, the wad and shot entering the lower left chest just below the heart, indicting a bad wound. He was taken to the hospital, where the shot and wad were extracted, and hope is entertained for his recovery.
