BEAUTY OF THE MOUNTAINS
A SIGHT WORTH SEEING. (From Our Own Correspondent) The beautiful scenes to be observed from the hills surrounding Raetihi on a clear day are not generally known, and tourist would give any "amout of money if they could only be fort.un-ite enough to be in the King Country on the right days. On Wednesday the scene of the mountains —Ruapehu, Ngaurulioe, Tongarlro and Hauhangatahi—was beyond description. The mountains were covered in their white mantles of snow, and at the same time Ngauruhoe was emitting a large column of dense black smoke in the centre of which was a distinct flame. This was rising into the clear blue sky, a picture that will live long in the memory of th is.’ who witnessed it. Towards sunset the sun’s rays reflecting on the mountains changed the colour scheme to a pinkish hue. and later on to pale blue. There is nd doubt that whfn better accommodation is provided in me Aationa! Parli and with proper advertising, visitors will be attracted from long distances to observe the wonders , of the centre of the North Island.
