(From Our Own Correspondent). A special meeting of Borough Council was h'id on Wednesday evening lor the purpose 31 appointing a Town Clerk, His Worship the Mayor. M. P. Finlayson, presiding. At the Council niceliug Monday this number of applicants was reduced to three and the me?i.ing adjourned to enable the three to come before the council. The choice eventually fell on Mr. Frank T. Ray, Town Clerk at Ngaruawahia. who takes up his duties here on. June 6 prox Mr. .Harding the retiring cl*rlr was granted leave of absence to 31st. inst. His Worship the Mayor was appointed honorary treasurer of the council from 10th. inst. until Mr. Ray takes over. Before closing the meeting, His Worship said he could not let. this opportunity pass without expressing to Mr. Harding the council’s great appreciation of the way in which he had always carried out his duties. They all knew that Patea was not making rapid strides ahead and W, was only natural that a young man should look for advancement and ha was sure that Patea’s loss would be Feilding’s gain. The councillors present endorsed the remarks of His Worship. Mr Harding in thanking the councillors for their kind remarks said that during the whole course of his six years’ service he had never once experienced any unpleasantness, nor been "taken to task’’ by the council. He thanked the councillors for their indulgence, for at times, no doubt, he had .made errors. Although leaving Patea, he could assure them all that he would never forget the very many kindnesses that had been extending to Mrs. Harding and himself. The meeting then adjourned.
