WANGANUI COMPETITIONS

PROGRAMME FOR FESTIVAL. At a meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Competitions Society, it was decided to augment the schedule of last year by adding to the pianoforte sec tion a further duet. The classes will now be for children under 12 years of age; for those over 12 years and under 16; and also for those between 16 years and 20 years of age. An action song for children between 12 and 16 years of rfge was also added to the schedule, whilst a further arrangement has been made in the elocutionary section dealing with reading nt sight, a class now being added for boy or girl under 12 years of age, while the other classes will be for boy or girl over 12 years and not over 16 years of age. This will bridge the gap that existed ihst year. CLOSING OF ENTRIES. It was decided to have tho schedule and book of words distributed as quickly as possible. Entries, which promise to be in excess of last year, are to clone on August 20. VACANCY ON COMMITTEE. The vacancy on the executive caused by the resignation of Mr Paul Latham, was filled by the election of Mr C. Atkinson. THE TEST PIECES. Mr Barry Coney, judge of the musical section, forwarded his selection cf pieces for the tests, and critics will agree that, while the range is a wide one, a very fine choice has been made, a high standard being observed right through.
