SAFETY FOE YOUR ESTATE. NO. I.—WHY THE PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE WAS ESTABLISHED. The Public Trust Office was established in New Zealand because the community need of such an office was recognised by Parliament half a century ago. The searching test of time has so well proved the value of this institution that Great Britain and the Australian States have been pleased to follow New Zealand’s example. Parliament gave good heed to these words of Sir Julius Vogel (founder of the Public Trust Office), spoken in the House of Representatives more than fifty years ago;—“Honourable members must be aware that it is very difficult to obtain trustees for wives and children, or executors under wills with sufficient time at their disposal to do justice to their task; and even when after some difficulty and a great sacrifice to friendship sueli trustees are obtained, no one can be sure that in case of death or removal, their place wilt be well supplied.” The Legislature acknowledged the force of these arguments, and agreed to give all sections of the public the protection of the Public Trust Office with a State-guarantee of fidelity. For full information apply to the Public Trustee, Wellington, or to Mr. T. R. Allen, District Public Trustee, Wanganui.
