THE AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP (Per Press Association.) ' DARGAVILLE, May 6. Mayor Hornblow presided over a public meeting last night to make arrangements for the Australasian sculling championship to be rowed on the Northern Wairoa River, for which two contestants —McDevitt and Ceruti—are already training on the river. Amongst other arrangements made it was decided that the course be 3| miles, and the stake £5OO. The date of the race was not finally decided upon, but it is expected it will be at the end of the first week in June. It is claimed the event will be the biggest thing of its kind ever held in the Dominion, and the first time the Australasian championship has ever been rowed under proper control. Many entries are expected from prominent scullers in Australia and New Zealand.
