The death took place on Sunday morning of Mrs. James, relict of Mr. Thomas James, of Princess Street, Fcilding. Mr S. James, who was one of the old identities of Feilding, was close on 79 years of a<e. She leaves a large grown-up family.

The Most Rev. C. Julius, D-D, Archbishop and Primate of New eZaland, has celebrated the 34th anni versary of his consecration as 2nd Bishop in Christchurch from Ballarat, Victoria, and the ceremony took place at the Christchurch Cathedral on May 1, 1890.

The Levin Chronicle learn* that Mr C. H. Pyke, who, for the past eleven years has been manager oi the Bank ot New Zealand in Levin, will retire on superannuation at the end of June after 42 years in the service of ths bank. Mr. Pyke will not be leaving Levin, intending to take up his permanent residence there.

His Grace Archbishop Redwood, whose golden jubilee as a bishop was so recently celebrated in Wellington, accompanied by the Rev. Father Smith, parish priest ot Thorndon will leave for Europe via Vancouver by the Niagara, which sails from Auckland on May 13. Both are to attend a big apostolic congress to be held in Amsterdam, commencing on July 23, and afterwards will visit Rome. They will return to New Zealand about the end of the year. Thia will be Father Smith's first trip Home since he came to New Zealand twenty-two years ago.

The Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett, of Westmere, has been appointed organising secretary to the Nelson Cathedral Board, with the special task of organising the work incidental to the raising of the balance of the fund (£60,000) required for the erection of a new cathedral. During his residence in this district Mr. Bartlett has been a member of St. John’s Bowling Club, of which he was one of the most popular and successful skips. His many Wanganui friends, while regretting Mr. Bartlett’s departure will learn with pleasure of his selection for this important post.
