SHOOTING

ON THE MINIATURE RANGES W.D.M.B.A. MEETInA A special meeting of the controlling committee of the Wanganui District Miniature Rifle Association was held at the secretary’s office, on Monday evening. Mr. W. Ayson presided. Shield Teams.—lt was decided that teams in this year’s shield competition should consist of five men, firing seven counting shots, and one optional’sighter in each match. , Order of Fire. —It was decided that flu* order of fire on all five bull targets should be conducted under the “Z” system. An amendment to this proposal from the Waverley Club, urging that when more than five counting shots were fired two targets be used, was defeated. Suggested Dominion Council.— Mr. W. Ayson asked leave to propose that an endeavour be made to form a Dominion Miniature Rifle Association. He said that it would materially help miniature shooting in Wanganui and other centres if such a body was formed, and a New Zealand Council appointed to govern competitions and to standardise rules. An individual championship and a teams championship could be fired annually under postal conditions.

The secretary pointed out that the rules of the Wanganui Association were daily becoming more complicated, because a parent body was not in existence to set a standard. Rules in Wanganui, and those enfpreed in Wellington, were different. The formation of a Dominion Association would mean that standard rules, to govern the conduct of miniature shooting all over the Dominion, would be adopted. That, in itself, would make the formation of a Dominion body well worth w’hile.

Mr. D. Lilburne supported the proposal. If a parent body were formed, shooting would increase all over the Dominion.

It was resolved that clubs be asked to discuss the matter, with a view to arriving at some decision at the next ordinary meeting of the controlling committee.
