CORRESPONDENCE
THE SCHOOL CHILDREN , TO THE FLEET.
(To thc Editor.)
Sir, —1 am delighted to leara that the young people ol the schools ara to go through to Wellington on a visit to the squadron. Many now grown-ups will recall the visit to the battleship New Zealand twelve years ago. On that occasion 1500 o£ all ages left Wanganui 6 a.m. and returned about 3 a.m. the following day, very tired, very sleepy, but entirely satisfied- But it must be remembered that that was a free excursion for the children, which tljis time is not the case. The charge is 5/5, and although for a trip to Wellington, that is an insignificant sum, there are homes that can no more affo d 5/5 for one child, let alone for two or three, than they can afford x 5. I sincerely trust* that our “well-in” ladies and gentlemen wifi com e forward and make it possible for all who wish to sec the representatives of our Glorious Navy, to make the trip. It was the Navy that won the war, and it is to the Navy that we owe th c fact that to-day in NeuZealand and in every one of the sister Dominions, we still live under the “Pax Britannica,” none daring to make us afraid.—Yours, etc , J. AITKEN-
